Importing Words¶
Chinese Text Analyser allows you to import lists of words that you already know, or to import words based on a specific HSK or TOCFL level.
This is useful if you have been keeping track of your vocabulary via another method (e.g. flashcards), or if you’d like to use an existing HSK/TOCFL level as a base rather than having to manually mark a large number of words as known.
To open the Import dialog, select File -> Import
from the menu, or press ⌘I
You can then import words from a file, or by HSK or TOCFL level.
From a File¶
To import words from a file, click on the ...
button and browse to the file
that you wish to import.
The file should be UTF-8, UTF-16, GB or BIG-5 encoded, and contain one Chinese word per line, e.g.
否则向外只不过发觉及到此出其不意…
For convenience, Chinese Text Analyser will ignore any text after the first space or tab character on a line, so if you have a list of words which includes other information after the Chinese text, such as:
否则 fǒu zé 1. if not; 2. otherwise; 3. else; 4. or else向外 xiàng wài 1. out; 2. outward只不过 zhǐ bu guò 1. only; 2. merely; 3. nothing but; 4. no more than只不过 zhǐ bù guò 1. it’s just that …发觉 fā jué 1. to find; 2. to detect; 3. to discover及 jí 1. and; 2. to reach; 3. up to; 4. in time for到此 dào cǐ 1. hereto; 2. hereunto出其不意 chū qí bù yì 1. to do sth when least expected (idiom); to catch sb off guard…
Then Chinese Text Analyser will only consider everything up to the first space or tab to be a Chinese word, and ignore everything else. This means that the above two examples will import exactly the same list of words.
You can use the Preview
pane of the Import
dialog to verify the words
from the file are the ones that you wish to import, and that Chinese Text Analyser has read the
file successfully
